Rural Awareness Tour 2018 - Queensland
Cattle Council's Rural Awareness Tour for 2018 was held in Queensland travelling from Mackay to Rockhampton on March 4 - 9. The objective of the tour was to give key decision markers a first-hand understanding of the industry. This year's participants represented a wide cross section of decision makers with industry personnel, government official and agribusiness staff all taking part.
The tour took in the entire red meat supply chain; from grass and grain fed production systems through to the processor, retail and food service sector. Participants inspected the processing facility of NH Foods in Mackay, the sale yards and auction in Emerald, the Signature Beef feedlot, CQUniversity Precision Livestock Research Station, Walkerston Country Meats butchery as well as numerous restaurants specialising in Australian beef. This insight across the whole beef industry enabled participants to see the interrelated nature of the industry and how issues within other segement of the industry have impacts throughout the whole beef value chain.
The tour also enabled the participant’s direct engagement with producers at Signature Beef and Calistemon Cattle Company. The engagement enabled the participants to hear presentations on a range of important issues to industry at all levels; local, state and national.
