As cattle producers we consider the welfare of our animals of critical importance and we are committed to improving animal welfare in all the markets we operate in.

Cattle Council does not support banning the trade to Indonesia as we believe this leads to worse outcomes overall both in Indonesia and Australia. It is clear that we must invest more to assure the welfare outcomes for our cattle.

We are committed to working with Government in a focused approach to develop and implement the type of supply chain assurance the Minister has sought for increasing level of trade.

Alison McIntosh - inaugural Rising Beef Industry Champion

Alison had a fantastic experience overseas and proudly represented Australian beef producers in the Five Nations’ Beef Alliance Young Ranchers’ Forum (which included a week-long beef tour) coinciding with the International Livestock Congress and National Western Stock Show, January 2011.

She met with renowned livestock handler, Temple Grandin and other young beef producers from around the world. Highlights of the Forum included:

World Wildlife Fund conference, Denver, Colorado USA

 A note from our CEO on Cattle Council's attendance at the World Wildlife Fund Conference:

We attended the Global Conference on Sustainable Beef from 1-3 November. The hosting partners of the Conference were: Cargill, Intervet, JBS, MacDonald’s, Walmart and the WWF. There were approximately three hundred attendees from all walks of life. Representatives from environmental Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), such as the WWF, were by far in the minority.

HGPs have been used in Australia since 1979 and are used in most major beef producing countries around the world including the United States. HGPs have been through a rigorous government evaluation and registration process and are registered for use in many countries.

Cattle Council Rising Champions Initiative

About the Initiative

The Cattle Council Rising Champion Initiative commenced in 2010. The aim of the initiative is to inspire, empower and support young people, who are passionate about the Australian beef industry and to provide them with an opportunity to be directly involved.

Pasturefed Cattle Assurance System

in

 Cattle Council is developing a Pasturefed Cattle Assurance System that will provide producers will another avenue of which to market their cattle.

The scheme will consist of two standards which will provide assurances regarding particular claims about the manner in which beef has been raised and fed.
