Cattle Council’s Climate Change Forum 2009 brought together industry stakeholders and research specialists to identify several areas for further research in developing a viable policy for beef producers.
The key areas identified and being pursued by industry are:
- further research and development into the accurate measurement, verification and mitigation of methane emissions;
- carbon mitigation policies that sustain international competitiveness; and
- complementary policies that account for the whole carbon cycle and issues surrounding the point of obligation in the supply chain.
This latest initiative considers viable research and arguments in the climate change debate before engaging the best policy direction for beef producers in an all-of-agriculture approach.
