Central Queensland producer 2014 Beef Industry Rising Champion

The 2014 NAB Agribusiness Beef Industry Rising Champion was announced at the Cattle Council Gala Dinner at Old Parliament House in Canberra last night.

Sam Becker, from Banana in the Dawson Valley, Central Queensland, was awarded 2014 Beef Industry Rising Champion and now has the unique opportunity to participate as a Young Rancher at the Five Nations Beef Alliance conference. Sam is involved in his family’s cattle enterprise, Jarrah Cattle Company, where he is responsible for running the cattle operation.

Cassie Cox was the recipient of the NAB Agribusiness Encouragement Award. Cassie works for the Australian Agricultural Company (AACo) where she and her husband manage the jointly run Anthony Lagoon and Eva Downs Stations in the Northern Territory.

Cattle Council President, Andrew Ogilvie, said it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to work with all participants in the 2014 Initiative.

“The passion and knowledge that the Rising Champions show for the industry is invigorating and after meeting the seven 2014 participants I feel confident that the future of the beef industry is in good hands.

“I look forward to following the progress of each of our Initiative participants and would particularly like to congratulate Sam and Cassie,” Mr Ogilvie said.

Khan Horne, NAB General Manager of Agribusiness, gold sponsor of the initiative said “Congratulations to Sam Becker, 2014 Rising Beef Industry Champion. This award demonstrates why investment in our young leaders is critical in the ongoing sustainability, growth and success of Agribusiness.

“I would like to congratulate all participants of the Cattle Council Rising Champions Initiative. The high calibre of this year’s nominees is a credit to the industry,” Mr Horne said.

The Cattle Council Rising Champions Initiative would not be possible without the generous support from NAB Agribusiness, McDonalds Australia and Fairfax Rural Media.
